SyncSketch is very flexible about how it imports media from synced ShotGrid playlists. You can choose whether SyncSketch transcodes media, or specify which rendition you want SyncSketch to use – even if it is in a custom field you created in your ShotGrid system.
Re-Encoding Controls
When you sync a ShotGrid playlist to a SyncSketch Review, SyncSketch will automatically re-encode the media file from the playlist item's Uploaded Movie field (sg_uploaded_movie) for smooth, responsive playback in SyncSketch. However, if your production pipeline has already done so, you can accelerate syncing and lower SyncSketch storage consumption by configuring your ShotGrid connection to bypass the SyncSketch transcoding stage.
To turn off transcoding, uncheck Re-encode videos in the ShotGrid integration settings panel of the Workspace or Project Settings.
When this box is unchecked, SyncSketch will look in a sequence of ShotGrid's "uploaded movie" fields. (You can learn more about these fields, including how to make them visible in the ShotGrid Playlist page, by referring to ShotGrid's "Do-it-Yourself (DIY) Transcoding" document.) The first linked movie it finds in this sequence will be imported into SyncSketch as-is.
These fields, in priority order, are:
-
sg_uploaded_movie_mp4
-
sg_uploaded_movie_webm
-
sg_uploaded_movie
-
sg_uploaded_movie_image
When Re-encode videos is checked, SyncSketch assumes that the file in sg_uploaded_movie is a higher-quality source to transcode from and moves that field to the top priority.
Preferred Media Field Controls
You may wish to override this prioritization by specifying one of these fields for SyncSketch to use when syncing. This field will be the top priority regardless of whether Re-encode videos is selected.
In addition, the Preferred Media Field can be set to some other custom field set up in your ShotGrid installation.
Currently, setting the Preferred Media Field must be configured by SyncSketch Support. Reach out to us at support@syncsketch.com.
